Step Up For Europe Road Show: Stop #9
Strasbourg is the official seat of the several European institutions, such as the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights. Located close to the German border, the city has served as a cultural bridge between France and Germany for centuries and is a symbol for European understanding.
At our stop in Strasbourg we attended a workshop organized by JCE (Jeune Chambre Economique) Strasbourg in partnership with Les Jeunes Européens - Strasbourg on youth participation in Europe and how to create sustainable solutions on a local level to shape the future of Europe.
During a group work, we discussed with the participants how young Europeans can be better involved in political decision-making processes and how the interest for European politics can be increased. In a brainstorming exercise the attendants came up with many creative ideas, how to increase understanding between European decision-makers and European youth and strengthen European identity, such as online exchange platforms between young people and EU politicians or the establishment of European internship and project platforms.
We agreed, that there is still much to be done to better inform young people about European political processes and empower them with the skills, knowledge and platforms to stand up for their interests and actively shape the future of Europe! We are happy, that with our campaign we can support this process, encourage young civil society to speak up and make the voice of young people in Europe heard!
